Welcome!

Welcome to the web site of the Central California Sierra Chapter of the Solid Waste Association of North America. The solid waste industry continues to face challenges this year with mandatory commercial recycling, continuing impacts of AB 32 and the current economic environment. With all of these challenges it is critical that we, as an industry, communicate and share our successes and what we've learned so that we may not only survive but thrive in these challenging times. We have scheduled meetings that are pertinent to the challenges of today and we are looking forward to a great year of meetings, MOLO training, and the ROAD-E-O.
The Sierra Chapter is planning to host a truck ROAD-E-O on April 28, 2012 in Tulare at the World AG Expo Complex. The ROAD-E-O will test the driving and maneuvering skills of refuse truck drivers with different types of collection vehicles, obstacle course style. Equipment mechanics knowledge will be tested as well with an equipment inspection and test. Testing and driving isn't all there is, there'll be activities for the entire family! Please join us for some healthy competition, good grub and fun. Besides, April isn't that hot in the Central Valley!
The Chapter has already begun the preliminary planning process for the 2013 Western Regional Symposium (WRS) which is planned to be held in California's best kept secret, San Luis Obispo, in April of 2013. We are spring-boarding off our successes from the 2010 Symposium making the 2013 WRS even better. If you haven't attended a WRS do so! Attending the WRS is a great opportunity to learn more about the solid waste industry and make contacts with others in your industry. The 2012 WRS will be hosted by the Southern Chapter in Palm Springs. You'll find 2012 WRS information here.
Please join us for one or more of our meetings with programs, round table discussions and facility tours. Participate (or spectate) in the ROAD-E-O, or experience any of the great training opportunities SWANA makes available to its members. As you can see from our web site, there are numerous ways to join in and get the most from your SWANA membership.
Feel free to contact me or any of the Sierra Chapter Board of Directors if you have any questions or suggestions, we welcome and value your input. You are SWANA!
