
SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Applications are now available for SWANA Central California Sierra Chapter’s Richard H. Townley Scholarships. Sierra Chapter will award at least two scholarships in amounts ranging from $500 to $3,000 based on the number of applicants and their qualifications.

R.H. Townley
The Richard H. Townley Scholarship is available exclusively within the SWANA Central California Sierra Chapter. To qualify, applicants must be either graduating from high school in the spring, current college student, or returning student, pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree. In addition, the scholarship candidates must be a SWANA Student Member, a current SWANA Sierra Chapter member, or the son, daughter, grandson, or granddaughter of a member in good standing in the Central California Sierra Chapter of SWANA.

Robert P Stearns/SCS Engineers
The Robert P. Stearns/SCS Engineers Scholarship (worth up to $5,000) is awarded to applicants who are full-time students entering or already in graduate school for the period of time the scholarship will be used pursuing a degree in environmental science, environmental studies, engineering or other major applicable to the field of solid waste or resource management.

Harvey W. Gershman Scholarship
The new scholarship of $5,000 a year is funded by a generous donation from Harvey Gershman. Named for a co-founder and owner of Gershman, Brickner, & Bratton, Inc., (GBB), this scholarship is awarded to full-time university students pursuing a degree in studies applicable to the field of solid waste or resource management and intending to seek employment in the industry. Students from Northeastern University are particularly encouraged to apply, but all Category II scholarship applicants may also be considered for this prestigious award. SWANA will manage the scholarship as part of its annual Grant H. Flint International Scholarship program.
